Stockpile Meal - Buffalo Chicken Strips

When I first started couponing and building a stockpile, one of the main things that I would search the net for was recipes from food that came out of my stockpile. They tell you not to look in your pantry and write down a list of things that you don’t have; but instead, look in your local sales ads and make a meal plan from it. (Also using what you already have in your stockpile) There are a lot of great sites that come from couponing women that have recipes- but I rarely ever found any that legitimately had recipes with the food from their stockpiles. I decided to start posting some of the recipes that I have been using with the things that I get on sale and food that I have accumulated from couponing.

Something that is important to me when I am looking at recipes is that the meal is healthy. Cooking well balanced meals for my family is a top priority. A lot of the recipes that I use are ones that I have found all over the internet, but some of them I tweak to make it a bit healthier.

This is a recipe I found here, I tweaked it a little bit. This recipe calls for Franks Red Hot Sauce. If you have been couponing for a while, you probably have several bottles lying around, so I thought this would make for a good stockpile recipe.

Buffalo Chicken Strips

Ingredients:
4 Boneless skinless chicken breast halves, cut into strips or nuggets
¼ Cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (more or less)
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ Cup whole wheat bread crumbs
2 Egg whites
1 Tablespoon water
2 Tablespoons of Franks Hot Sauce

If you want the flavor to be stronger, I would marinate the chicken in hot sauce for a couple of hours before cooking.

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Coat baking sheet with cooking spray.
      2. In a bag, mix together flower, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper, and salt. – In a separate bowl or plate, mix the breadcrumbs with the remaining salt and cayenne pepper.
3.      3.  Beat egg whites with the hot sauce and tablespoon of water.
4.      4. Shake chicken in the bag with the flour until coated. Dip chicken in egg mixture, then in breadcrumb mixture. Place the chicken strips on the cooking sheet.
5.      5. Bake for 8 minutes. Flip pieces over, and bake for another 8 minutes or until juices run clear.

Home Management Binder Idea

Lately I have been looking into Homemaking Binders. The ones that have a daily schedule, meal plans, monthly schedule, to-do lists, inventory, etc. I found a lot of great resources for printable pages and what not. But honestly, my printer ink is running out and I don't really have the money to put towards the supplies to make the binder.

Cheap Books and Movies Idea!

If you enjoy reading then you must know that books can get expensive. Even books for your children can rack up some money. My son is about to be a year old so we were shopping around for some books for him and discovered small touchy feely books can range from $5-10! Crazyness.I love to shop at Half Priced Books, so I looked them up online and found out that you can actually order books off of their website!

This touchy feely book is only $.99 online! The book Eat Pray Love, priced $12 at Target, is $.99 online at HPB. You can find great books for really cheap in-store, but they are usually literally half priced. If you don't feel like digging through books at the store, this is definitely the way to go, plus the books are so much cheaper. You still have to pay for shipping but honestly, its worth it to me to stock up on a bunch of books for super cheap.

With Netflix and OnDemand not a lot of people buy DVD's anymore, but Half Priced Books is a cheap way to go if you do buy them. I found Inception, new on DVD for only $6.30! Movies are usually close to $30 at Best Buy.

Go to Half Priced Books, and check it out!

Organizing your coupons is easy! There are several ways to do it, but I’m going to show you how I keep mine organized.

Cheap Dinner Idea

Josh and I went to the local Fiesta Mart the other day to pick up some things and we stopped by the meat section of the store to check out their prices. They had an awesome deal on pre-marinated chorizo, for $1.99/lb. There are a couple of places around the Dallas area where you can get meat for cheap that is marinated in deliciousness and ready to cook, we usually go to La Michoacana.
We ended up getting a little under a pound of the chorizo, which is perfect for us because I'm only cooking for two. I made little Mexican Pizzas with the meat.

To make the meal I used: tostadas, refried beans- you can get them for cheap or $.99, chorizo- $1.99, homemade salsa verde, and sour cream. If you already have corn tortillas, you can fry them up yourself and save some money.

They were delicious! The salsa verde helped balance out the spiciness of the sausage. I'm going to use the left overs for breakfast tacos tomorrow!

Thrift Store Shopping

I have decided that thrift stores are great for finding decorations for my house. I got these awesome cafe pictures from a thrift store down the street for $5! The sticker at the top said "3 for $6", but she offered to take a dollar off.
We were trying to find some nice toys for my son that were gently used, we didn't have much luck. There was a standing piano music maker type thing for sale, with no batteries in it. You can't let them handle you! We asked if it worked and at first the man said he didn't know. So, we asked how much for it. He said "$10" and continued to say how it works great! First of all, I'm not paying ten dollars for a used toy at a thrift store unless its shiny new. I had to walk out because he blatantly lied to us.
When thrift shopping you have to stand your ground. Try to haggle a price that you think is fair for the item, if they don't accept, you don't have to buy it. There is a street near my house that has a strip of thrift stores on both sides of the street, needless to say, some stores are better than others. You can find some that price things reasonably and others that are outrageous.

I have had some good luck at a thrift store near my mom's house in Garland though.

I was looking for a good piece of furniture to refinish to put my plants on and found this one! It has a glass top and the wicker is in great condition. The tag was marked $12.96, but when I took it to check out I found that it was 50% off all furniture day, so it was $6.48! Woo hoo! I'll have a step by step with pictures how my project went soon.
